in 1979 while on holiday in scotland i had the chance to go round the kilmarnock combine factory which closed in 1980 they made 520/525 and 620/625 combines there many of them for export i was told they made about 7 combines a day they also made the headers for the 750/760 combines for europe and at various times potatoe harvesters trailers and grass cutters the factory is now used for DHL parcel distrbution
if anyone has pics of the brantford factory it would be intresting to see them

I worked at White Farm Equipment Brantford right out of high school. I loved it!!! I saw the first 9700 get built at the top of the assembly line

click here for a thread on Massey and White's demise in Brantford Ontario

Brantford was the farm equipment manufacturing leader in Canada with Massey and White having around 4000 direct jobs and thousands of spin off jobs. Brantford has never bounced back from the lose of these 2 grand employers.

click here for some White/Cockshutt pics and info

I had read in a rcent farm paper that massey painted a 860 black and gold and called it the pheonix. It went to farm shows in the early 80s and hoped it would kick start the company. apparently there was only one in that color scheme and after the farm show tours it was sold to a farmer in the states. they lost track of it since . i am wondering if anyone saw it.

It was called the Phoenix. From the background scenery in the pic I am 100 % sure it was taken at the North American Combine Plant in Brantford. My buddy got this pic from a former Massey worker recently
