Default agco 3000 series corn head trash intake

in the past ive noticed the agco 3000 series hugger cornhead takes in a lot of trash. what can i do to it to pull the leaves & stalks thru the rollers & leave just the ear of corn? ive ran the high speed sprockets as well as the middle speed sprockets with little or no difference. im tempted to take the flutes off the rollers & cut parts of them out as calmer cornheads promote this on their rollers on their cornhead.

i'm curious to try cutting a row off of spirals off, makes sense to me, that has always been a problem with the hugger head in my opinion, it really kills the capacity of the combine, i think a lot of the problem is the deck plate having the ledge on it, but getting rid of a spiral might help as well, thanks for the input redline

Don't cut the spirals, they make the head the capacity that they are. Cut 1 of the flutes if you want but expect having standing stocks behind the combine. Agco has a good hugger but they have a long way to go to have a cornhead that can compete with any other brand.

i removed 1 flute off each stalk roll to combine down corn & worked perfect up to 2.8mph. we 55mph winds & took areas in field down to 1' tall. also had no rain & stalks were brittle. w/out doing this the rolls would just touch the stalk & snap off & pile up which told me the cornhead is overaggressive for that condition.

this will not work in damp or heavy stalks, plugs & hairpins at the top of row unit. so i cut off the first 1/2 of 1 side of 1 flute & cut the same off of the opposing flute & works perfect. everything is back in balance & lets the stalk in & still shreads the stalk like it did before. it now takes in less trash

On 3000 series heads, the gearboxes are one inch narrower on each side. (so they could make a 20 inch head) So the gathering chain sprockets on the gearbox are 1 inch closer together. They are using the same gathering chains, so the lugs are sticking out over the stripper plates to far and break off a lot of stalks and bring in lots of trash. The only way to help this is to cut off about 3/4 inch off of each lug.
