Default broken shaker shaft in 670

broke the shaker shaft on the drive end RH. the shaft crystalized at the weld on the ear or lobe attachment for the shoe. checked for a new one & dealer says it changed numbers. cannot tell me if they actually changed design or just vendor. maybe they changed the welding technique? the new one looks to be exactly the same design. why dont they machine a shaft with keyways in it & clamp the lobe/ear to the shaft? because every shaft ive ever seen welded usually brakes near the weld. another thing is there is an update for the shaker shoe, anyone know what this is & how to tell if I need it? ive got a HP serial #

We had the exact same issue with our 2010 9795. Also snapped the top pan drive shaft due to the same thing. Those shafts should last 2-3000 hrs easily. Could be cheap recycled metal from China? lol. A weld completely around a shaft like that with too much heat is not nessesary at all. Starting to get worried about what else is going to fly apart. The 2011 9795 also had a bent beater shaft right at the pulleys. We kept going and it held but shaft quality seems to be an issue. Had no trouble with the 9790 we had.

Ya we broke that shaft on our 9790 as well, at least I think its the same one based on your description. Our dealer actually had them in stock, the year before they replaced 15. The updated shaft is suppose to fix the breaking problem. Its a really fun job to change that bugger to. We were kind of lucky it broke close to the end of the day, the dealer was still open, and we were able to get it back and running by about starting time the next day, so we were lucky to not loose to much time.

Check the bearings and pillow blocks as well, ours stretched a bit and the bearings were turning just a little, but they still had to be replaced, which means pretty much taking the whole thing apart again at some point.
