the old transtar is my favourite, keeps going - easy to fix - although it doesnt break down much anyway. I really like them.. made how trucks should be made, just getting a bit old now. i probably should be dropping the sterling back and getting another main truck and having the sterling for the second truck - its 90t and bdouble, where as the transtar is single only.
Transtar now you are talking trucks. The old man gets all exsited over the last transtars.

I herd about 4yrs back that agco was going to be taken over the cat track tractor..I think that was part of the plan with cat for the challenger name..Sense the orange color was not selling well so part of this venture was that cat put motors in some of the combines massy, challenger and I think some of the gleaners axials before dropping the Sisu in its place it maybe emissions..But I think there's more to it like when lexion came over as a cat & cat was maken the track machine for Claas..Where I live the cat dealer dosen't even sell the challenger & agco dealer has them part of the change I guess still like the track machine even if its not 100% cat...

I personally think that as long as the Challenger is better designed than the competition, it will sell and sell easily. Cats are not generally fuel efficient engines. Is Cat commonrail yet? International is using Cat stuff with talks of 40k psi injection pressures.

I think we all know that the Challenger Track tractor is heading toward sisu/cvt and rightfully so for emissions and fuel efficiency reasons. My guess for the next step in the challenger tractor is for it to follow the Cat bulldozer into a diesel electric hybrid.

I am secretly hopeing that some sort of terratrac style suspension makes it into the MT series.

Dare I say that I see the need/nitche for Challenger to build a row crop quadtrack.

sisu is a dam good engine been used in uk france etc for years really good in cold climate will run for 15000 hours trouble free very good on fuel easy to fix if need understand why there is concern but from my small experance with cat there a ten fold better engine so put on your seat belts and enjoy the ride i give it 5 years and you will see them in trucks
just look across the water to the east there using 650hp engines and getting 15 to gal pulling same loads as we do and whats fuel millage here pulling bees lucky if 5 to the gal
so change is on this part is going to be good i think def is also a part that has been used for last 3 years in uk etc and proved trouble free

I read this thread this morning and made a point of studying the Lexion 760 on Kramers lot in Swift Current as I drove by this afternoon and definetly no sign of a Cat logo on that combine.

What appears to be going on is AGCO being disengenious about the Challenger brand (which ironically still belongs to CAT) by masquerading the brand to be perceived as still part of CAT. This shows the perception problem that still exists in the market place. SISU engines are a much lower cost option than the CAT engine since being inhouse. The SISU is a fabulous engine as well as CAT. SISU seems to be more the finesse engine while CAT is more the brute prize fighter. The whole Challenger/CAT arrangement proves that AGCO still suffers a major identity crisis in the American ag market and is choosing to be a cheap imposter behind the real yellow.

So it's entirely possible that the " real yellow" dealers will be selling AGCO Challenger tractors with AGCO Sisu engines and maybe even a Cat badge still on the side (like a forklift) in a few years.

Hmmm. Somebody's marketing an imposter alright. At least they don't have the stones to put the Badge on a Claas anymore.

AGCO purchased the Challenger brand in 2002 according to Wikipedia. You might want to challenge that information if they have it wrong.

You're not just pissy because they aren't Orange? Are you?
Try to remember AGCO is an acronym, you'll feel better.
