Default 590r bent cylinder shaft

well took the 590 in for warranty inspection and service and got inspection report....... several warranty fixes and 9k in non warranty fixes!! I thought these things were built to last? some of that is service such as gear box oils and a few little things like feeder chain slats etc. But the one thing that is really concerning me is the cylinde shaft is bent and is a 3k fix. Now i have been told if u plug them in low speed u can twist the shaft but i never plugged it in low speed, as a matter of fact i only plugged it once in high speed in canola and it wasn't even that bad. Should i expect this kind of thing every season or what? and also should this not be coverd on warranty? seems to me its a weak spot on these machines, what about a 770 with even more horsepower and torque? the dealer is working on getting some coverage from claas so we'll see how good of a company they are. i'm hopeful but just think it is something that should be covered on warranty.

Do you know how they could tell the cylinder shaft is bent or where it was bent? Did you have any vibration or anything unusual that made you think you had a problem? That seems unusual to have something like this bend. Our 590 always seems to have some vibration in the cab which I thought was normal. Do you think maybe the belt was too tight and there was no give? I was wondering how a guy could pick this up when he goes through the combine himself? Keep us updated in what you find out. Thanks SouthernSK

Our "used" new to us 595R that had a inspection done at time of purchase also has a bent cylinder shaft. No vibration. We had a rotor bearing fail that lead us to find a ton of internal damage that we are sure we did not do in 100 hours of operation. Hope we dont have to go through this after every harvest. Our shaft is bent where the variable spped shieve attaches.

southernSK if u fire up the seperator and stand in front of the combine look at the variable shieve and it will be moving left to right u can tell it instantly. There was no vibration at all and i had no idea it was bent, they say IF i'm lucky it will be the stub shaft that is on the sheave but i'm not holding my breath, i'm never that lucky when it comes to this stuff. Did any of u guys that had this problem get any help from claas??

i mean if they market these things as world beaters seems to me they need to be built to take some stress cause that is inevitible when u are pushing a combine this big. Our deere has never had this big a repair bill and it is a 2001 9650sts with 2000 sep hrs, go figure!!

All that I am going to say on here is that our local dealer that we did not buy the machine from is really sticking his neck on the line for us but so far we havent got any help from anyone. We have talked to the Claas rep and he is looking into it. Not impressed with the dealer we bought the machine from that is for sure. Apparently they are the Lexion experts.

Westy and Ssfield what year are your machines? Do you think it is a certain year of the 500 series that is giving problems with the cylinder shaft?

Westy if you can, email me a list of
This 9k repair. Timblack@sjblack.com. Something seems way out of line. I've had a couple
Bent shafts, should get some help, obviously a Claas problem as we now as you mention 770 with more hp has an
Enclosed solid cylinder with different shaft design- two stub shafts

southernsk, i should have t old u to look at the 2 speed pulley on the cylinder shaft not the variable speed pulley. and this machine is a new 2010 i bought this fall, the tech i talked to said the older 590's had issues and they updated the shaft so i don't know what will happen now. lexionman, the 9k bill is full of incidentals and wear items like chopper blades and some stuff on the aps and a chopper belt that is cracked but not covered on warranty? i can live with the other 6k cause i have cut it down alot as i will be doing a bunch of it myself to save on labour ($111.00/hr) the gearbox oils i'm getting changed cause i feel that is very important, i just have a hard time swallowing this cylinder shaft when i haven't abused this machine enough to hurt it u know? like i said we'll see if claas stands up and helps or not, not to sound like an a$$ but i know our deere dealer would fix this.
