Bought a 585R this winter and will be harvesting wheat, navy beans, soybeans and corn with it. It's coming with the original corn per concaves, as that's all the previous owner grew. What should I pick up as far as additional pre concaves? and what are views of HHS pre concaves?
http://www.hhsparts.com/ I'm thinking of picking up a set of each (small grain, soybean and round bar corn) and modifying the original corn pre concave by enlarging the holes (cutting out section between the rows so there's 2 elongated rows of holes instead 4 rows) for Navy's? (I've seen it mentioned online and a neighbor did it and says it works well) or maybe the HHS round bar corn pre concaves would work good in Navy's??? Buy I don't want to spend more than I have to. I'm pretty sure it' has the long finger chaffer sive. I've read about guys having problems with pods in the bin with the long finger and to keep pods of of the bin some guys put in a short finger chaffer sive in beans and the long finger in corn because the short finger reduces capacity in corn. Should I run a short finger or long finger chaffer in wheat?? Are the pod problems more with edible beans than soys? Any good after market ones?? and how much? Thanks for any help. |

I have a 740 with the keystock/wire main concave. I bought roundbar preconcave to minimize soybean cracks. I have the smooth slotted preconcave but havent used it. Welding 1/4 or 3/8" round bar between the slots would give a more aggressive grate. I also have the "soybean" preconcave, but it caused slightly more seed damage. I used this one on wheat. I might modify this soybean keystock grate for wheat, by adding another keystock between the original keystocks.
HHS has very good products at a decent price. I have the long finger chaffer on top and the factory short finger sieve. They both produce a very clean wheat and soybean sample with effective means for the return system. If you are running in hills and want more performance, do what tigercat suggests and change the 3-d sieve arm, relocating it slightly lower on the "can" and also put the sieve crank kit on it. |
