hey i am looking at buying a 4650 or a 4850 john deere, was wondering what your guys thoughts are on these tractors? realibility, maintance, etc? thanks
Generally pretty good, like any old deere that starts with a 4 If you're looking for a powershift, I would go with a later 50 series or a 55 if you can afford one, UNLESS it's been through the shop and had the updated C1/C2 shafts installed. They have a tendency to break on the early 15 speeds.
wonderful tractors. i loved these tractors when i was at deere, very solid and reliable tractors.
if i could trade my tractor in for a nice one of them i would do it without a second thought.
We just bought a 4650 this year and the only things that we had to fix were the steering assist cylinders and the front u-joint. The cylinder bushings on the wheels sides were wore out and the cylinders were pushing on the bracket. Just check out the play at the ends. that is if its a MFWD?
Seems like it is easier to find nicer 4650's. I think people really pulled the s%$t out of the 4850's because they were a substitute for a 4 wheel drive.
