we have their side band openers and love them. we have our second drill now with them on. wear seems good depending on soil type. we thought our emergance was great compared to our last paired row opener. the only compaint is that you have to triple screen your fertalizer to keep it from plugging.

We are looking at going to a paired row opener (either Dutch or Atom Jet) when we pull the trigger on a double shoot drill.
Second choice was side band. Andrew Last edited by Andrew_D; 02-22-2012 at 01:15 AM. |

I ran the liquid version of these openers, they wear very little. I just did a quick calculation and estimate each opener travelled through 2300 miles of soil in the seven years they were on the drill. They only now need to be replaced. My only complaint about the atomjet design is that the tips are not replaceable. The bodies are in good shape, but the carbide is well rounded.
I'm thinking of replacing them with the Bourgault tillage tools liquid/dry sideband openers. They have replaceable tips, and the liquid tube is just run down their existing dry fertilizer side band shoot. So if I decide to switch back to urea fertilizer I don't have to get new openers, I just pull out the liquid tubes and attach dry fertilizer hoses. I like like having that option. Good luck with your search.

I found the AJ's to constantly lose or break the carbide on both the tips and the wing. This was quite a piss off after running a set of Bourgaults for 7 or 8 seasons and not busting 1. Maybe I had a bad batch I don't know? Other than that they did a geat job of seeding and the liquid lines didn't plug like the BG's did.

Depends how good you are at welding carbide!
The Atom-Jet's are rebuildable. I think they offer rebuild kits for all their openers and instructions on where to weld the hard-facing lines, etc. Here's one of the instructions sheets: http://agriculture.atomjet.com/wp-co...STRUCTIONS.pdf Andrew Last edited by Andrew_D; 02-22-2012 at 01:19 AM. |
