Default Need advice on air drill decision

I can't decide between a good used 2004 BG 5710 w/ 6450 leading cart or making the "step up??" to a 2011 NH P2070 w/430 bu leading cart for an extra $70,000.00. I think BG has the better cart but I like the P2070 independent opener drill design. I use granular, so I like the fact that I don't need an extra truck for N fertilizer with the P2070 vs Mrb's on BG. I also know that a couple of years from now, I can get my money back on the Bourgault, the P2070 ????.

In my opinion it's hard to beat the 5710-6450 combo.

Why do you need the extra truck with the MRBs?

Put the 6450 on the P2070. I would be more worried about the 5710 losing its value than the 2070. One sales guy told me Bourgault is selling like 85% 3320 now and very few 5810 any more. We demoed a 2070 last spring and it worked well but it is a 4.5 mph drill. We ended up buying a demo 3310 with a 6550 and mostly just for the cart. The New Holland cart was worse than our old flexi 3450 so I could just not take a step backwards like that. Good luck in your decisions.

Thanks for the suggestion. Currently using a fertilizer blend, but with MRB's, I would be using 3 products-seed, N through the MRB's and N-P-S blend with seed.

Me neither.
I'll be faced with pretty fair reconditioning bill on my 4350 but that beats spending 40 grand for a far worse cart!
I can not think of any piece of equipment that was not only completely stalled in development
but actually went backwards when taken over by CNH.
I'm not sure sure that effort on that 580 cart shows A. they are trying again or B. they will be out of the cart business in 5 years.
So far it's B.

I think unfortunately B is the answer it will be really hard to get their market share back. They claim they are bringing out a new cart in 2 years but I have been hearing that for about 3 years now. If you went from a 2320 to the new one and skipped the 50 series altogether you wouldn't think they are that bad. I hope the Bourgault is an improvement but I do know for sure that my dad will be able to maneuver the auger by himself and not dam near kill himself fighting with it.

I agree the newholland/flexi will depreciate much faster. I would go with the 5710 6450 combo I know a few guys in our area that are going from 3310s back to 5810s now for simplicity and reliability. Also the 5710 is less picky about performing in different soil conditions and will produce as good of a stand as the 3310 if you take a day to level it right.

I run a 72' Seedhawk with 6700 Bougault tank. I used to run 2 flexi coils 3450s and would NEVER go back to FC. Bourgault tanks are king, they are built like a "tank", and offer so many advantages over the FC. Like one of the above said going with the new style FC would be a step backwards, couldnt agree more. They are so crude looking.

thanks for all the great feedback. I know I won't be disappointed going the Bourgault route, but with the P2070, it gave me an opportunity to get into an independent opener drill at a decent price but that cart is a drawback.

Other than the loss of the hydraulic lifted auger which can be added back in buying a few pieces through parts and replacing the Flex-Control Monitor with the AFS/200/300/600/700 the cart is the Flexi-Coil 50 series.

It is correct in that nothing new has really happened with the seeding lin up at CNH, other than the additon of the Precision Hoe drill and 580 cart to the line up it is the same lineup as when CNH bought Flexi-Coil so how did they take a step backwards when the product really hasent changed? It is fair to say they havent kept up with the times are far as new options/features/product devolopment goes.
