12.7 Detroit......... But between the two, pick the cummins. There is nothing good about the cat since the electronic motor. They are even gonna quit making OTR engines in 2010 I believe. ISX has its problems too but much cheaper to fix and less of them

Re: cummins isx vs cat c15acert

Interesting on the head gaskets, haven't heard that one around here. My 12.7, 500 h.p. was getting aroung 6 almost 7 mpg, until we put a pup behind it then it dropped 1.5 to 2 mpg. Had a bad driver for a few days in harvest 2 years ago, now engine oil is blowing out the blow-by tube, a new development. Hopefully just a ring or two. Anyone with similar experience? Back to your topic, I've never drove a cat, but a few ISX's. The jake is unreal beats cat or detroit hands down, that is a big factor for me.

It amazes me how many people have never driven a cat yet are experts on them. How can you compare jake brakes when you have never driven a cat? I drive a c12 and I tell you something for nothing I'd give my left nut to drive a c15 Just my 2 cents worth. The transport company I work for has detroits, cummins and 2 cats and a heap of isuzus All the american engines are running rings around the jappas for mpg The reason they buy isuzu is cheap and they don't break down much

I have driven mostly cat .. Have had ALOT of problems with them. The newer ones have a d**n good jake. But so do the cummins. I think the fuel economy are about the same on both. With my experience the cummins has less mechanical problems..

The detroits may see tail lights...until it passes a cat that is fueling up or stopped for repairs.
