Default Cat 3116 engine fuel injectors ??

Mechanic says I may have an injector going bad on my 1990 GMC Topkick C7H tandem grain truck. Has a Cat 3116 mechanical fuel injection.
He said it requires special tools to change out and repair the injectors.
My question, wonder what it costs to get this fixed? What happens if I don't fix?
Thanks.

A bad injector is something that needs to be addressed. As it will not atomize the fuel correctly and can cause severe engine damage or failure if left unchecked. As for price I don't know it will depend on the cost of new or reman injectors or the cost of repairing the old ones. I know on many of the mechanical injectors we have it is usually the same money or cheaper to just put in new or remans Vs. repairing the old ones.

Is there a easy way to bump up the hp on these engines.

We have a '96 topkick with the 3116 in it, can you turn the pump up or do you need a chip ?

The 3116 can be turned up, it has to be done under the valve cover with some expensive tools and dials.
Injectors for a 3116 are less the $100 a piece. Labor to put them in is a different story. Kind of a complicated process to get it timed just right as each injector has to be set individually.
Better have someone work on them that really knows this engine!

Thanks Dutch,

I thought if it was simpler than that I would do it but it's not like the truck needs the extra power.
