I know what you are saying about the late start of our harvests up here. In 96-97 I only wasn't on the combine for 4 days and had to go back to school at WSU. I went to class on Monday morning and told all my profs that I had to go home and harvest for a week or two and then I would be back. Not one had a problem with that and said we will see you when you get back. Got to love land grant colleges.

I don't know if anyone up in this area would be interested in what you are talking about, but I think you could probably find harvest work up here. An experienced combine driver is always in high demand. Who am I kidding, anyone who actually whats to work these days is in high demand. Where are you located and do you already have the combine you were refering to?

As to your question about older machines still running, there are a lot. We still run a 1470, and 2 2388's all hillsides. There are many more 1470's, 1670's, 1460's, 1480's, 1680's, 2188's, 9750, 9660, lots of 9600's, 9632's, 8820's, 6602's, 95H's, N5's, N6's, R-72, GH's, and you get the picture. The surrounding areas there are new or newer machines running but not in our immediate area.

Hey jwheatly, no custom guys around up here. If we are done with harvest we sometimes go help other guys finish. This last harvest was a mess with all the rain, flash floods, wind, and just generally terrible weather. We finished on Labor Day, then ended up helping 4 neighbors finish, with the last of the crop getting harvested on the 1st of October. Further east between Spokane and Pullman they were even later and I heard that some of the crop never got cut. The last that was harvested around Waterville was pretty badly damaged from all the rain.
