Default Polaris Ranger Diesel or JD Gator 855D

Has anyone compared these two XUV? What are the pros and cons of either machine?

Ranger diesel is not as fast as the 800 gas version.

thanks guys i guess speed isn't an issue 32mph (52kph) is quick enought. We are planning to purchase a few of these for mud use and for bug checkers to get around the farm in rather the more expensive toyota hilux's. the mud problem is propably the biggest issue, its black heavy tacky stuff - rips inner wheel guards out of hilux's like nothing else. just in the past 2-3 wks of flood weather we are spending roughly $2,000-3,000/hilux on CV joints, steering racks, brakes pads and rotors, wheel bearings, inner guards. with 15-20 hilux it doesn't take long to add quite a bill. these hilux's just ain't built like the old ones.

So I guess clearance, wheel travel and ability to keep wheel arch somewhat clear of mud would be at the top of the list

I run Polaris so may lean in favor of them. I have 2 neighbors that have the new JD gators ( gas engines),and find you stay cleaner on the Polaris because of the way the floor boards are shaped. Both brands do well in mud. Have you considered using tracks on what ever you get.

I have both. A 2009 Ranger and a 2011 Gator. Both are gas however so cant comment on the diesels. I like them both equally as well for different reasons. I think the Ranger however in the mud is a little lighter than the Gator. I tend to to use the Gator more than the Ranger when it comes to working, pulling things around or hauling rocks etc. I just ordered one of these, maybe an option? Probably way more fun at any rate

I'd go for the Ranger. Been running around in my uncles the last couple of days and its a pretty good ride, not the diesel but it has good power. Its not muddy here right now but it handles the snow (whats Left) good and has good traction on the icy slopes. I'll take a look under neath but I think there is good clearance for mud, and the drive components seem to be protected pretty good.

Our Polaris dealer is also the Deer dealer, and he looked at both, and the Polaris was a few thousand cheeper.

Gator - Reliable, dealer support, parts

Ranger - Speed. Uh... did I mention speed? haha

We have a Gator on the farm but personally I would rather have a Ranger.

I had a gator diesel and unless they found a way to enclose the belt if you get anywhere near water with it the belt slips. I traded it in after about 5 hrs on a 620i and now have the new 825 it's got better get up and go
