9000 series combine raise lower header switch

Had a breakdown today...header wont raise...seems the hydro handle switch is broken...i swapped the solenoid coils from reel fore aft and use that switch for raise lower now...it may be solenoid coil but hard to test by myself....

Is it common for these switches to stuff up?..ive never replaced one...all other functions work fine...

I might order coil to be safe

Ant...

Can't you test the coil with an ohm meter?

If you want to test the switch and wiring, hold the switch down with a rubber band or some electrical tape or whatever, and see if power is getting to the coil end.

Also, I was thinking it would be more convenient if you could use the reel lift switch for comb lift, but after looking at the diagram under the door of my CTS, looks like that simply wouldn't work. I guess you already looked into that before hooking into the fore/aft switch.

Yes reel lift is single phase...reel fore aft or unload auger are only options..its worked well...if i ohm the coil what should i get?...i dont have any manuals...im just focusing on getting as many harvest hours as i can...had a relay go bad for fan and had to weld one rear wheel rim...touch wood clear sailing for a while..

The same amount of ohms as the ones working properly. I don't have any manuals either.

A new coil is $272.98, so if it was me I wouldn't buy one unless I was pretty sure it was faulty.

The coils should be roughly 4-10 Ohms. Doubt you have a coil problem, although possible. More likely either the switch or wiring in the hydro handle.

It's usually the switch in the handle. We have changed quite a few. Not too hard to change just need the little pin pusher tool for the connector at the end of the cable to remove it so you can pull the cable out of the hydro handle and don't forget to draw a diagram of what color wire came out of each slot

Cool i tested the coil this morning as there was heavy dew...its fine...tomorrow i will fit switch...im hoping i have my pin pushers with me! I cant be bothered diagnosing the old switch, its been a busy 2 weeks....when i get home i will work out what happened...the switch was $125 so not to bad...and i did a relay...so all in all going well...

Ive got alot if work to do to get set up to contract....or custom as they say in nth America.

Its been hard work harvesting clover this way but its going well...

Was the switch....had time this morning to play around..the old switch wouldnt hold current on raise...returning coil tomorrow..

Using the fore aft reel as raise lower made me an extra 2k in harvetsing while switch rocked up..im not looking forward to STS and being reliant on expensive cards
