Who says it failed because it was overloaded? If it was not made well, it easily could fail because of poor workmanship. You can't just assume it was because the tire was overloaded. Just think....JD sells gazillions of those combines with those tires. I don't think you'd see them on there if they were not up to the task. FYI that EXACT tire goes on lots of other brands, and they are "overloaded." The manufacturer has "approved" the tire to be used for the combine manufacturer's application at the combine's recommended inflation pressure. If you have a huge grain tank extension....well then it's being used in a way not intended. I hear what you are saying...that's why we are seeing new tire sizes all the time, and 800's are no longer offered on the S-series (which weight substantially more). It's frustrating to say the least, but I don't see how it's JD's fault. When the combine is ordered YOU have the choice to choose your tire size, type and brand...which should be made on the basis that it is going to fit your needs. How old is the tire? Why did it fail? Can you see the defect? It's probably just poorly made, and JD can't control that....they offer choices so you can choose what you think is best. We have a new 800 Firestone in our shop and now have duals, so who knows what to do with that thing. We'll make you a great deal, and just by another Firestone and kick Goodyear to the curb, lol.

I'm no tire expert. That it failed because of overloading was the opinion of the gentleman that owns the tire shop. Could it have had a defect that led to the failure? Sure. We check tire pressure at the beginning of season and intermittingly during harvest. Do I have a hopper extension? No. The combine was a stock order from my local jd dealership so I didn't pick the tires. When I break something I expect to pay for the damage. I am disappointed my dealership did not help out more. Im not going to lose sleep over it. By the way new combine coming with duels and firestones.

Our dealership wasn't overly excited to help us (since they are not tire experts either), so we made a phone call to Firestone and...bam, free tire. I'd say it's worth the phone call to Goodyear, right? Couldn't hurt. I hope you have better luck with your duals like us. Did you order a new S-Series? What did you get?
