Any one else have trouble with 800-70r 38 goodyears on their combine? One of mine got a hernia in it abut 30 inches long right on the sidewall. I'm getting a little help with some warranty but the tire shop tells me the load rating for the tire is not heavy enough? If you also had a tire problem what kind of help did you get?

almost every combine tire is over loaded when the hopper is full even some with duals when you have the hopper extensions on. Try and find the tire with the highest load rating its either in ply or star for old tires but your metric tires will be a number like 177A8 the higher the number the more load it holds the letter is the speed rating and the 8 i have no idea

Goodyear tires seem to have a problem with sidewalls. I've seen bulging like that several times on various size tires. Also seen a fair amount of cracking on Goodyear rice tires. I definitely prefer Firestones on a combine.

After over 20 combines we have learned time and time again that Firestone is the better tire, especially in sidewall construction. We have blown out a number of 800-size goodyears or had sidewalls fail. Thankfully we have switched to duals on our new combine this year. We have had one combine with Firestones on the other with Goodyear a number of times....even in wear, road ride, etc the Firestone is much, much better. Our duals are Goodyear (grrrrrr) so we'll see if duals do better. Maybe that's why Firestones cost so much more, but it has to be worth it. You know how sometimes on the tread bar the size is imprinted into the rubber? After an entire wheat harvest run the Goodyear tire had no numbers left at all, while the Firestone's number's look barely worn. However last year we blew out a Firestone 800.....a first for us. Of course the other combine blew out a 900-size Goodyear so...... Lets just all get logger tires!

Farmerjones, the Goodyear tires you had trouble with did you get any warranty replacement on them?
It seems to me manufacturers should be putting tires on that are rated for a full loaded combine with a large header. I have never run or been around a corn header but I imagine they are much heavier than a header for grain. That would seriously overload your tires with a full hopper of corn! Why do I have to incur any cost for tire replacement if the combine manufacturer is not putting the proper tire on in the first place? Any way rant over just pissed, left lexion because no dealer support and this is what I get from JD! |

How your tires survive depends a lot on where you harvest. Lots of terraces, side hills, rough ground with ditches....tire take a beating compared to places they just drive around on flat fields all day. We are finding with the wider platforms and higher speeds we need more stability to stop the rocking motion, so we have chosen duals for the first time ever. Of course now this means all summer we will have to take them off and put them back on probably 9 times or more. So we'll see what we think. We hope to find with more sidewalls, a wider stance and much more rubber on the ground than our 800's it will be better in the mud, better at crossing ditches and also a better resale value. And we'll get to see how Goodyear hold up again. Since we have a 1-2 year trade cycle we'll at least have some warranty during our ownership should we have problems. |

Yea I'm a little ticked at JD, they chose the tires to put on didn't they?
If Goodyear said these tires would handle the load then JD needs to go to bat for their customers to get satisfactory resolution for those that are affected. |
