This problem never seems to go away and, in fact, seems to be getting worse.:frown: Guys, you need to fill in the location in your profile. It takes a minute to do, go to:
>USER CP (at top of page when logged in)
>Edit your details
>Scroll about 3/4 down the page and fill in "Location"
It's that easy!k:
Maybe you think people know where you are from because you posted it 3 days ago or 300 days ago, but most of us can't keep track of that. What I can keep track of is that almost every time I come on here there is some discussion about "my conditions" or "it snowed and my wheat is flat" or even items for sale......and no location. I think guys would get more help with their problems and less threads would get de-railed if we only had some context on things. I think a state or province should be mandatory, but the town you live near would be great to have as well.
It doesn't hurt to have a general area. I like a little anonymity but if someone is talking about wheat and I don't know they're from Illinois or even south sask I could sound like an idiot commenting as its like comparing apples to oranges.
I repeat people, my complete lack of anonymity has lead to meeting a bunch of nice people, acquiring good friends and, my favorite, more credibility then any anonymous source could possibly have.
Not only am I honest by nature, I'm forced to research throughly anything I post about. I insist on accuracy for myself.
Wrong occasionally, absolutely, but more than willing to admit so!
But I digress.
Get your ******* locations up, lol!

I don't disagree and I will add a little more info because of your reasoning. While I don't mind being transparent about what I'm doing the people that i am in business with don't want their information shared.... a fine balance if one is more than a lurker on a public forum. If someone PM's me I will give them everything but cc # and social security #. When it comes to equipment threads the first thing for sizing equipment is "how many acres?". If my profile is somewhat anonymous I will give that out, but if my profile is as detailed as yours I may think twice. Acres per hour is the best measurable to go by anyways. I'm not worried about putting foot in mouth because I actually enjoy pestering the bee hives.
What does anonymity have to do with credibility or honesty?
The interesting thing about internet public forums is they are fairly self regulating. If your credibility or honesty isn't as squeaky clean as Don proclaims you'll show it whether you know it or not.
Really Joe?
If that's really your name.
You can write whatever you want, pure bullshit or truth, irrelevant, you have nothing at stake through your anonymity, I, on the other hand, stake my entire credibility with every post.
Can't believe you even have ask, your posts generally indicate you are not that stupid.
:22: Wait what's that. You judged my intelligence on my posts. My location had nothing to do with it? I have a list of those credible or how I perceive them to be honest and intelligent on their posts alone without an ounce of consideration if their location is posted under their name!
I see your point about the posts doing the talking, not where you are from. This is fine when you are an established poster and people are familiar with your body of work, but when somebody is new you may not know them or they may not know you. Using yourself as an example: you have been really insightful and helpful to many of us(including me), but sometimes you can come off as being a bit abrasive. There would be times that if I wasn't familiar with you and you were anonymous I would write you off as an agitator, if you had a profile it would help me to give you the benefit of the doubt.
I do think the main point of a location is to give perspective into a poster's situation and experience.
I get your point though, a rough location helps people understand the situation. If your from WA you knows it's a Mediterranean climate with **** soils, that at best they call shallow duplex, at worst beach sand...
Well I just read first post and put my location. No biggie. Just lazy when it comes to that I guess. Telling me how to do it SW was all it took lol. I have received emails trying to sell me stuff or infect my computer in the past so the less info shared sometimes the better but it's up there now.
Thank you. I found the location box. I just joined about a week or so ago. My apologies for not being thorough. I'm using the mobile format because I don't own a PC. The comradery is great! I farm in NE Oregon. Let me know if I'm ever beating a dead horse.
Thought I would give this another Bump. There was quite a few that either added a location or modified theirs to better show where they are located.
I understand why for a few it may be sensitive to show your location, but for the average "Joe" not to, ????
I have just come through a period of several negative comments directed at myself and feel it was good that I was showing my location!
So as SWMan has suggested - "Add your location to your profile please."
