So Ive been to a few sales this spring and everything is going for 2X what I think it should go for. I just can't believe that guys are paying this much money for used equipment. Do guys not look at the stuff before they buy? Anybody else finding that these spring sales are NUTS? It's very frustrating.
Examples:
2006 TV145 Bi Directional Tractor with Loader and 3pth - Thought it would go for $75,000 - Went for $101,000
2004 Chevrolet Duramax 2500 Truck with only 2WD - Thought it would go for $15,000-$18,000 - Went for $27,500
2004 Chevrolet Tandem axle Grain truck with duramax and automatic - Thought it would go for $75,000 - went for $105,000
80's Chevrolet Single axle Grain truck - Thought it would go for $5000-$7000 - Went for $23,000
3 new 9.5L-15 tires on old Flexicoil rims - Thought it would go for $400-$500 - went for $900
2004 JCB 160NL excavator with 4500 hours and thumb - Thought it would go for $35,000-$40,000 - Went for $59,000
40 foot CI cultivator - Thought it would go for $3000 - Went for $10,000

And this is only a few, I have seen 100 more like this already this spring.

Was watching a 2005 9660 sts 2ith 1950 Sep hours that sold today. Figured it would go for 65-75k based on what others similarly went for. Went for a whopping 125k! Somebody just had to have that one I guess! Another thing I found wierd about it was that the auctioneer sold it fast. Usually they drag out the larger items but this seemed really fast.

Well by the sounds of it it is a good time to sell and not to buy. I guess it's a cycle that has to happen. Would be sad to be the guy giving your equipment away. Many of us take pride in our stuff and someday our stuff may be up for auction. I would like to think that a fair price would be achieved but you just never know. Obviously there is a demand for used. I actually like buying from local dealers. If you take it home and it's not right they make it right. You go to a sale and pay as much or more, and you take it home to find that the cart you just bought has wiring issues that are a PIA to trouble shoot, or that combine you just bought has issues, it's all you!! No dealer to fall back on with a reputation to uphold. Ask Bruce Schapansky if there is warranty lol. He likely sold that same piece of equipment 3 times because there is grief with it, and has made 12% selling it all 3 times lol.
