Just curious on your guys thoughts on the pulling power of the notorius 555, there is one local for $11 000, 6500hr, duals, pto, and appears to be an over all clean unit. My question is simply what is it capible of pulling. If we buy it the main intention is to pull 24' Kruase HD disk (which makes our NH-Ford 8770 work), 30' cultivator and drum-packer, as well as grain buggy at times.
What have you guys known to pull behind the 555? |

The old rule of thumb is a two wheel drive will produce 50 percent of its pto hp on the drawbar a front whell assist will do 60 percent a 4wheal drive 75 percent a track will do 90 percent. You can add 5 percent for radials on any of those numbers

defiantly if you can find an 875,,, well worth the money,, I worked with a farmer in college that bought a 555, because the woman he was with liked it over the 875,, well he got rid of that woman and bought a 875 and is really happy with it. Still has the 555, and it pulls a pretty good size disk with it, but it really has about the same power as a 2+2.
the 855 cummins is a better bet,, but if its got good tires,, the 555 might do it for you. they are really expensive.. 20.8/42s are over 1800 a piece. |

I went through the thought process of thinking about buying some cheap horsepower this spring and figured I could pay for a Fendt on the fuel I saved and had a lot more versatile machine. Look into a high houred 900 series Fendt.

Do your self a favor and buy something else.
Cummins 555s are in my opinion are the worst POS diesel engine ever conceived. Unless you knew who owned it since it left the factory, they only ever worked it lightly, and were meticulous with maintenance and fluid changes, I might think about buying it for a total of two seconds and then I would slap myself across the face and go purchase an 855 powered unit. But back to your original question. The Versatile 555 we owned would pull a 36 foot chisel plow but it was all it could handle. It had plenty of traction but the power was lacking.
