Thanks, I've gotten some good responses. I never heard of the steel brush kit, but it sounds good. I wasn't bashing deere like the first person thought, as we nearly bought one before the 8010. I do like the direct CVT drive, which has 100HP to the header i was told. We currently run a JD 1293 12row head with fluted stalk rolls on our 8010. They do absolutely nothing to the stalk and it hardly breaks down through the winter. We run RTK and plan on planting (no-till or maybe vertical tillage to plant beans between the row) or Strip till for corn on corn. We have seen others do this with great results. thanks again.

I ran a 12 Drago chopping head on a 8120 last fall, everything worked great. The combine was ordered with the brush kit from the factory.
One thing I do suggest, if you are running a chopping head, change the oil in the lower gear case (it's where you hook up the cornhead pto drives) to a synthetic oil. That gear case runs so hot I can't see how a regular oil will hold up. I also make sure that oil is changed every year. |
