Default 1620?

Hey folks, new member here. Looking for some input/advice. Small farmer, 200 acres wheat, 200 acres soybeans & 100 acres milo. (also raise vegetables & tobacco) Been running a Gleaner F, but too slow, too small & too worn out. Need to upgrade. Looking at a 1987 CIH1620, 3500+ hrs, no header, a little over $10,000. Have not seen it except photos via internet. Nearest CIH dealer is a little over an hour away. Ran JD 4400 & 6600 prior to the F, local JD dealer. Also have good local source for Gleaner parts as well. Will a good 1620 machine meet my needs? Does it have a good reliable rep? Or would you - even though this is a CIH forum - suggest looking for green or silver paint. I buy equipment according to what fits my need and is the most efficient and economical, i.e. not partial to any particular color! Wheat yields average mid 70's, beans in the 40's, & milo in the 80's. Don't need to be in a huge hurry, just need a machine that is dependable and has the capacity to do what I need in a "normal" harvest season. Would appreciate any comments.

1600 machines are simple reliable combines and easy to work on. But I'd look for a 1640 or 1660. 1620 has a smaller rotor and I think parts are getting harder to find and you will need parts for a 25 yr old machine. Parts are still common for the 1640/60 because pretty much the same combine was made up into the early 2000's. You should be able to get a 1640/60 for not much more than a 1620

Not only are the parts easier to find, but you will get much more combine for about the same price if you go with a 1640/60 or even 1680.

i have had my 1620 for the 12 years. its been
a great combine. i keep reading that parts are hard
to find but i have not experienced that. i would like
to know what parts are not available. there isn't
as much after market items for this combine compared
to the larger ones. but i don't consider this to be a
problem.

jmho

good luck!

We have a 1620 89 model, nice machine comfortable cab, everything works and we talked to case and they can get every nut and bolt for the machine.
you can go on the caseIH parts store online and look at every part for the machine and order any part you need.
We wanted a 1640 but got a great deal on a very low hour 1620 machine.
way better machine than our 3300

Thumbs up

We had a Case 1995 and 1688 years we have achieved tremendous results to harvest all crops if you can buy one in good condition would recommend that you buy ours sold it with 14,600 hours, is simple as any other case you will have to repair it.
After reviewing the case will give you A LOT satisffacciones 1688.
Good luck.
