Is anyone or has anyone ran an 8 row Geringhoff chopping head on a 6088 in higher yielding conditions? If so what speeds were you able to travel?
Also for those who run these types of heads what type of maintance is required on them as well as a dollar amount per year to maintain. I realize acres makes a difference. Thanks. |

I run an 8 row Grecav chopper head on our 6088. (grecav.ca) In ideal harvest conditions this fall, I could run 6mph in 180bu corn. It was our first year with the 8 row. Ran a 6 row from the same company the last 4 years. Did daily required maintenance and no problems. Broke the odd chopper blade if I hit a stone. 3000 acres on the 6 row and changed 1 roller chain because the oiler plugged up. Reversed chopper blades once. Lots of Geringhoffs in my area as well and don't hear to many complaints maintenance wise. Only complaint is they don't chop as well at higher travel speeds.
