Default R62 Head Gasket

I have a 1997 R62 and the head gasket is leaking anti-freeze down the flywheel end of the engine block. I was wondering if this was a common problem for the Cummins? When I got the machine before last wheat harvest and it was just seeping a little but by corn harvest it was running to the floor. Does anyone have any advice in preventing the problem after I replace the gasket or is this just a rarity? Thanks for any help.

I had same issue last year, it was a broken head bolt. From what I know they have been a good engine, many out there in Gleaners and CIH combines.

Pretty simple motor. Just pull the head and clean up and put a new head gasket in.

We had one broken one that was a bugger to get out, but I think there was an update to those bolts??? Planed our head while it was off.

Have the head planed and get the correct gasket per the planing. There is a torquing proceedure that goes by the number of turns not a "click" value. You should get new head bolts when you put it back together. If I recall there are a couple of different lengths of bolts - don't re-use the old ones.
