I'm still using the "randomly" generated one the email gave me. No other site is this strict. When you think about what is required for banks and credit cards it doesn't really make sense.

No doubt. An on-going thanks from all of us to you!

I do wonder if they eliminated the free membership, and at least put a marginal cost joining, if that would slow down the spam attacks? Pretty easy target when it's a free sign-up one would assume.

Wonder if moderator approval for the first new thread or post would nip 3/4 of the spam in the bud or not? (Sorry mods, I know you are busy as is!) I do think a cost to join would turn away most people. Amazingly even for a pay to join we might end up with spammers, they just use stolen CC info or fake ones to make a "payment" and get in.

I'm on a couple other forums where you have to post so many times and be a member for a certain amount of time before you can start a thread.... not sure if that would help at all or not.

I signed up on another forum last year to access information about an older Deere garden tractor I had bought. As I recall when I did, in the rules it said your first post had to be approved by the mods. I have read on others while researching things, that new members have to wait 24 hours or so before they can even post. I think that would be the simplest solution. Sure it would be inconvenient for someone new looking for a quick answer, but given the work and time all this spam creates for the mods, and I know myself it is irritating to us members as well, I think that would be the best approach. As for these guys looking for answers on their first post, I've noticed most times they are one hit wonders and seem to not even return to thank those who responded anyway or are long gone after they get what they was after.
Was a comment I read on here a bit ago about those of us who use this site a lot, should all be supporting it, and I agree, thus I paid up here a bit ago myself to do my part.
