Ok but Cat hadn’t built a combine since 1925 or whatever then. Class built their combines. They’re Claas combines, period. So they’ve never been back in the combine building business unless putting a badge on a combine and supplying dealer support is enough to be considered a combine manuafacturer. And Claas, in my opinion, would have been better off building their own branding in North America. They’re one of the largest combine manufacturers in the world market share wise. The Cat move was their way of trying to get a big chunk of North America immediately, thinking the Cat brand would draw new customers, but ultimately the lack of parts/service support hurt their reputation in the end. I feel what they are doing now is the right path and I fully believe, with what I think is the premier product on the market, that Claas will eventually be looked at as favourably in North America as any of the other brands. But they should have started this strategy 30 years ago. Build slow and steady and provide the best product. That was the right strategy.

Do you think selling just combines and a model or 2 of tractors is going to be hard to keep dealerships going ? Unless they break down lots, shops won’t be that busy.

Claas has a huge presence in forage harvesters in western Canada, and they are trying hard with discbines, hayrakes, etc...

I think the "Canada west harvest center" shops are carrying other short lines like lemken too?

claas had appointments with Cat. Cat (caterpillar) built the caterpillar tractor for Claas, and Claas de Lexion. because caterpillar wanted the crawler in Europe and Claas the combine in North America.

Where is your buddy from? Has he run a Vario to measure it against?

Sure would be nice to put one header on for the whole harvest(except corn), but I have seen two draper headers fall short of the Vario so am a bit cautious about the Convio.
