-rock jammed between draper and crossmember
-or slippage between drive roller and draper from dirt buildup

I've been dealing with this issue on our 974 we just bought. Straw can get inside the canvas and wrap around the drive rollers. We adjusted the "gap" between the canvas and the cutterbar and this seems to have done the trick. Check page 55 of your header manual. I hope this helps.

If it just stopped with really no prior warning I would suspect a rock. Go to the center of the head, grab the canvass and try to rotate it back wards, it will loosen the rock and usually you can reach in under the canvass and pull it out, it will be under the canvass right behind the knife.
Sometimes the rock may be no bigger than a golf ball.
