640FD cross auger

do deere's top cross augers work in straight cut canola on a 640FD? i've heard that end of header won't let crop feed properly since auger ends a few feet from end of header. should I be looking at different brand of auger like Ag Shield? I know deere does offer another model of auger that goes all the way to end of header but is much larger diameter making it harder to see the knife while combining.
what have been your experiences?

While not familiar specifically with Deeres setup I can tell you right to the end of the header and bigger auger flighting diameter are both good things for crop material flow.

crossauger in the way... its something you get used too, I kinda would like to see knife on my FD135, but after a few thousand acres you get used to looking over the cross auger... its not the same as if the auger was not there at all.... but what u gonna do? u need that auger there... would be great if it somehow came out and hid when not in use. only time I wish it was not there was in the soys.. but its not even that bad, rather have it- than be without... if I wanted to see the knife I'd go back to a flex auger,
the intake where the crop feeds into the feederhouse is the biggest factor when straight cutting canola... Macdon definatly figured that out with the FM100 Adapter plate.. that thing eats canola like a beast, didn't plug once in 1000 ac strgh cut this year... and that new finger design on the Reel makes a difference in short soys… you can't go wrong with a Macdon FD1... Can combine it all! Except Fkn snow

Our FD70's cross auger doesn't go quite all the way to the end, but still works fine. The problems with feeding normally occur as more and more material is pushed up against the back wall of the header as it moves towards the middle. The outer few feet aren't usually a problem, at least it isn't for us.

You would have one rank crop if you needed the cross auger at the end of the header

Have ran Ag shield on a 640d and it was by far a better auger that complemented the header than the deere one was. We eventually made poly deflectors that essentially extended off the outer ends of the deere cross auger out the end sheets of the crop divider which really helped out
