1020 cutterbar

The cutterbar broke just to the right of the wobblebox. Can we weld this or should I get a new one?

Re: 1020 cutterbar

Was it the cutterbar itself that broke or the support underneath? WE had the underneath support bracket break a few years ago on our old 25' 1020. New one was built a lot heavier

we have never had luck welding a cutterbar. the longest it would run is 1 day. Is your knife a one or a 2 piece?

We broke the bar that the guards bolt onto. We took it to a metal fabrication shop and they welded it. It has held for 2 years. It must help to know how to weld, and have the right equipment.

Re: 1020 cutterbar

you dont have to buy a new one, if you dont want to. the 30' sickle has always had a problem breaking about one foot inside the wobble box because that is where all the stress is at. what we do is take the piece that broke off on the left side and weld it up on the right side of the sickle. so all you are doing is just moving the sickle over. you will have to re drill your holes for the head, but very simple. there is alot less stress on the right side of the cutter bar as long as you get a good weld it will last you a long time. good luck
