8 row peanut digger

Started digging peanuts today. Actually yesterday but that was just trying out the new Amadas 8 row digger.

Also running 2 of our old 6 row diggers.

Sweet. Would you mind getting some more pictures of all stages of the peanut production cycle. I'm sure there are a lot of us here that would like to learn more about crops that we aren't familiar with.

Re: 8 row peanut digger

Guys, I will post more pictures (if time allows me to take them) of harvest.

After digging the peanuts we leave them on top of the ground with the peanuts exposed to sun and air to allow them to field-dry.
Depending on weather and forecast we either leave them to dry completely or we start combining after 5-6 days and dry them on trailers that blow heated air thru them.

Also check my profile for a link to my picture web site. Click on where it says "My Pictures".

I wil ltry to get some of our drying setup.

Re: 8 row peanut digger

what row spacing are you on? we are thinking about growing some around here next year...we have the chance to get a 500 acre contract..and cing as how it takes a lot less fertilizer to grow them that is probably what we will end up doing..600 dollars a ton is good money especially when we can grow 4500lbs to the acre around here.

Sweet pictures. I've never seen a peanut digger working before. I guess peanuts are working out for you? All I learned about peanuts in college was that nobody in Oklahoma wants to grow them anymore.

Re: 8 row peanut digger

When the quota system was abandoned it changed things up quite a bit here too.
Now every Tom, Dick and Harry is growing peanuts.

We don't grow but half the acres we used to. Our limited water being one of the bigger reasons for that.

Re: 8 row peanut digger

Nice pictures dutch. I grew up on a peanut farm and love seeing any modern peanut pictures. Is the 8 row a pull type? I had heard that amadas were toying with the idea of attempting a 12 row, you heard anything about that?

Re: 8 row peanut digger

Now that I found my post again after it has been moved for whatever the so called reason is!! Nothing special about peanuts!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed them.

Yes, it's a pull type 8 row digger.
And yes, there are at least 2 pull type 12 row diggers around. One of them is at the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Georgia, the other one is digging peanuts around here.

A video here of digging peanuts.
