Late season Reglone?

I know this sounds crazy because it's November 13th but...

We tried 20 acres of our sunflowers seeded with vetch. The vetch has crawled up the sunflowers to the point that it's almost higher than the sunflowers, and it's still green as grass! The seeds for the most part ready, but it's like silage in the hopper. The frosts for the next week aren't looking huge either and I would really like to get it done.

So my question is, with how green it is, would reglone kill it still? Or will the plant be done taking anything in at this point.

Any advise is appreciated!

I don't know where you are from and I don't know about vetch but if it's green still it should work provided you give it some time and it has some growing temps, it will take longer than normal I would think.

I am still spraying roundup as of yesterday, might do a wee bit tomorrow before parking the sprayer. I think it will work well but I am only trying to kill weeds, not harvest them.

All the rules are out the window this year it seems...

I have see it work in October...... temperature is secondary to sunlight with reglone, would need some sunny days post application.

not around sunflowers much. but because reglone is totally contact I would imaging getting less than ideal coverage inside the canopy to kill off the vetch.....

would be curious to know how it turns out if you do it

Paraquat works well if you can use it, we can. I had some left in the sprayer about two weeks ago and decided to use it thinking it was going to be a waste, smoked my Canada Thistle, took about a week rather than 4 days. When I switched to Gly I had been running 20gal and dropped to 5. The first pass on the fall burn down was amazing with people telling me something was wrong with my sprayer because I only killed the first pass.

I would love to see pics of the vetch in there! And would love to know how you did it! It's something I would love to try

Thanks guys. Might have to give it a try. Talking snow/rain this week so frost might of killed it by the time I actually combine it but hey, this is all an experiment after all!

SWman, we farm near Wawanesa so won't be much different than you guys.

And yup will post some pictures/numbers after all is done. It's a real impressive looking stand if nothing else. Should produce more seed in the 2nd year by the sounds of it.
