Cheap/Vintage edible bean equipment

Hey yall,

I'm a beginning farmer. I currently direct market mixed vegetables.

I'm looking to get into edible bean production on a relatively small scale (30 acres).

I am having trouble finding much info on vintage pickup heads / compatible combines.

I don't have a combine yet, as I am still trying to identify my options. As with all my equipment, the budget is tight.

Looking for something of the busted knuckle and a good set of tools variety to get me going.

Grew up working on JD 3300s and the occasional 1470.

Don't care what color it is, so long as I can fix it when I break it.

If I know anything about old combines, I know I'm gonna break it about the time the rain is coming and the windrows need combining, so a rare beast is probably not my ideal.

That said, the older it is, the better chance I can weld up a fixit.

Anyway, Y'all got any suggestions (besides don't do it, run for the hills?).

... buy bulk and repackage?

Where are you located?

Probably can find some old 12 row equipment to modify and old picket harvestor for a few grand. Maybe need 4440(?) to run the harvestor. Is 30 acres the farm total or 30 acres of edibles? If 30 acres of edibles consider hiring someone to harvest, there is varieties that can be cut can help out to offset/eliminate the charges if cost is a concern.

I agree with the above thought.
