Duals on 7660 spracoupe

What is best way to keep stress off axle Stubbs when using duals? Less air in outside tire? Run lower speed? Bought a used 7660 that came with duals- wondered about how hard it seemed to engage when starting off-figured that’s the way the transmission worked- tried to baby it starting off& ran it like that for 2 seasons- didn’t need the duals so took them off the first fall& left them off- this spring I pulled off the road to let a fuel truck go by when I went to go there was a little click& I wasn’t moving- looked back & oil was pouring out around the wheel- the stub shaft had sheered off- when I took it off it looked like it had been broken 95% for a long time- we’re wet here at the moment but I’m abit nervous to stick the duals back on- the one thing I’ve noticed is that shifting from 4th to 3 rd is sometimes abit harsh- it’s an automatic transmission & sometimes if you’re spraying in 4th and start up abit of a hill or something it will bang down into 3rd if it can’t pull it- I try to shift before- but brain isn’t always on top of it- should duals stay off or more care in shifting? When I replaced the stub shaft the hard engagement I had always experienced went away

I have a 7650. I believe they run the same power train. Mine will actually hesitate for a second when downshifting especially third to second. I had a tooth break on the rear differential pinion. Let's just say that is an expensive little unit. Was over $8k in parts for a crown and pinion, spider and side gears, and bearings.

What size of duals are you running? I have a buddy with 7650 that has 30.5-32 on it. He's run them a few seasons and had good luck with them so far. He was also worried about the axles but so far so good.

Did your axle break inside the drop box? I've wondered about what kind of ride that would be when working on sidehills.

Twisted off right at flange where all the wheel studs are- the output shaft coming out of your planetary- everything inside seemed fine
