has anyone looked at tarp barns for sheep housing? I am constantly getting flyers in the mail from britespan and others about tarp barns and wondered how good one would be for sheep. There was several a couple of years ago that colapsed in the snow or wind if i recall and they seemed like they kind of fell out of favor for a while

Thought about this for a while as well.. not the sheep but the hoop barns. Different area but when I checked on this and found
plain jane pole barns are within a few $ of hoop barns.

My daughter Alyssa and her boyfriend Colton raise sheep near the city of Tompkins SK..
Colton is a quiet kid, never gets excited about anything, married to the farm.

Last spring when he was lambing he was showing me all the baby lambs and mothers in an overcrowded barn due the the extreme cold, this normally unemotional person beamed pride and satisfaction showing me the love he had for sheep and their care.
Suddenly struck me, just because I would never do this doesn’t mean he isn’t gaining great fulfillment and pride in his work.

You can tell all the sheep jokes you like but that was a lesson for me, never stand in the way of another persons happiness, nor would I ever criticize it.

used a 30 ft wide tarp shelter for 8 years with 250 ewes they loved it was great for February lambing in mb it would still be full if not for 2 years of drought and no feed don is right I never had anyone visit that didn't smile at 400 lambs bouncing around a barn

well said don and everyone else. i think the same goes for most things, some would rather spend all day in a barn full of livestock and never set foot in a tractor and the opposite is certainly true too. whatever floats your boat.

how old was your barn? do you recall cost to put up? i suppose another benefit would be the natural light that it allows through during the daytime
