Great video! That started quicker than any modern day engine.... they gotta turn over at least once so the computer knows its position... this one was running before 1 complete revolution..... awesome!

Keep calm and combine on....

Holt was one of the forrunners of Caterpillar, Best was the other. They merged in 1926 or 25 I believe.

BP.
That's interesting! I showed it to my brother and told him I bet that thing is close to 400 ft-lbs at that low speed!
That's like gen 1 5.9 Cummins power!
That means it would have similar power as a 1644 case IH combine not to mention them heavy flywheels that could actually power through a kochia plant.

Very interesting build and will be looking forward to seeing more on it!

Years ago I had done some research on thier combines and all I can say is WoW! Way ahead of their time!

Super neat! Agree you deserve an attaboy for that!

The pride they used to take in manufacturing has sure changed...
Build the best engine you can, take pride in it, and cast your name in the block. Make it rebuildable.

Saw a video of this running outside on a trailer and it was great to hear. That steady rhythm almost as if playing a tune...

GREAT JOB! Thanks for sharing

Thanks all, it’s been a very satisfying project. I honestly never thought I’d get it to this point. I was super lucky when I found the third engine. It had fairly decent jugs and heads. I was able to bore them to fit a set of oversize pistons I had. I can’t believe how nicely it starts.
