1917 Holt combine engine

Hello all, here are a few pictures of a Holt engine I just finished up. It’s a Holt 45 horse power. It has a 6”x7” bore and stroke and is rated at 600 rpm. This would have powered the large wooden Holt harvesters from the teens. It took me about a year and a half, and three separate engines to make one runner. It would have been painted green originally, but I wanted it to stand out a bit. Enjoy.

BP.

That's a big chunk of metal for 45 horses! Very nice work!

It's easy enough to be pleasant, when life goes by like a song. But the man worth while, is the man with a smile, when everything goes dead wrong!

Great job thatís cool!! Not an antique buff and that is the first Iíve heard of holt but that is a beautiful motor.

Very interesting how big it is, looks like it could power a 4 wd today from the size, maybe Iím exaggerating but thatís a bit 45 horse!

One of my friends figured the torque to be 389 ft [email protected] rpm. I thought that sounded low but he was very confident in his formula. He teaches ag engineering at Washington State University.

Holt was one of the forrunners of Caterpillar, Best was the other. They merged in 1926 or 25 I believe.
