Ford 3 liter diesel

Anyone on the forum running one. By reading some commentary on it sounds like fuel mileage is pretty respectable.

That is going to be an interesting engine. There should be more diesels being built IMO. Glad Ford has come to the table finally with something diesel you don't need to own a 3/4 ton for. Early 80's Nissan had diesels in their compact trucks and ran forever on minimal fuel. I thought back then that diesel would gather steam and become more widely used but not so. Dodges eco diesel is awesome on fuel and many have gone this route. Can't buy one in 2019 however. They need to get back in to diesel in their 1500's or they lost me as a future customer. Europe has piles of diesels for a reason. They just stand the test of time and are very efficient.

It will be interesting to see if the emission system is better than the dodge ecodiesel. All I've ever owned is diesels, but if you aren't constantly working the newer diesels the DEF system starts acting up. Europe is actually planning to ban diesels in their cities for "pollution" reasons even though new diesels don't really pollute much. With all that said, if the ford 1/2 ton diesel can prove that it isn't addicted to the dealers shop I will certainly be interested.

Diesel Engines produce more NOx emissions than gas engines. EGR, retarded timing and DEF are used to reduce NOx. We all know how much fun modern emissions are on Diesel engines. These engines aren't like the ones of old, ie run forever with no repairs. They are quite complicated with a ton of specialized components. They are clean and fuel efficient but problematic. I have an Ecodiesel. It's been decent on fuel and no emissions troubles yet. I'm not sure I'll keep it for 400,000 kms like my 5.9 L Cummins.

I'll take the motor out of one of my old trucks and sell it to you as a glider!
