shop door in side

Anybody have a 40 or 45 ft door in side of shop? I have only seen them in the end and assume it would take a lot of bracing to stick it in the side which would be a lot more usable.

If its cold storage a slider should work. Have seen shops with 20-25ft overhead doors in the sides.

Snow load for the header will be very significant. I would make sure what is proposed is actually designed by a qualified engineer. For me I would want to make sure it can survive the weight of the one and fifty year wet snow load. If you have enough depth in the header area it should be possible. Most guys that sell or make buildings have no engineers on staff.

Can be done using girders and a gable above the door. You could have full headroom because load is carried above the walls, truss company could design something for you

I have been pricing large cold storage shed with exactly that. Some companies will do it and some will not. The ones that will are engineered steel buildings and doesn't sound like the cost would be to bad considering
