While I have not tried the yellow feed thing it certainly would fit weather pattern around here better - the only time when you can bale dry greenfeed is on a year when it really is dry. Did have an instance a few years ago where desiccated one part of qtr(roundup) and not the other and than somebody turned cows out on it after combining The cows would walk to the furthest corner that had not been desiccated and clean it off before they would go on the desiccated part. I would not have thought it, but was pretty obvious.

“The protein content and digestibility of standing hay are similar to those of conventionally baled hay with the only downside that dry matter losses from trampling can be high and the quality of the standing feed will eventually deteriorate in quality.”

NB: Australian conditions (ie generally drier and hotter than Canada), obviously more similar to Sth Africa.

Have a neighbour that does the yellow feed, seems to work good. Way better than having it sit in a swath for 2 weeks hoping it doesn’t rain. Usually has to be sprayed after anyway.
