Banding NH3 in the fall with a 5710

So I typically apply NH3 in the fall to all my acres. I recently sold my NH3 applicator and am looking for a bigger one around 50-60ft. What I'm finding is these units are $100,000 - $130,000 which is ridiculous!
As I search Kijiji I find a 74 foot 5710 on 12 inch spacing for sale for $30,000 with no MRB. Why couldn't I use this to band NH3? I would have to change the openers and put the Nh3 kit on but it would be SIGNIFICANTLY less even when all said and done. What I'm worried about is packing the rows which just means more packing in the field.

Any thoughts on this?

I've thought alot about the same thing, already have the air pack on so might as well put on some K, P and S as well to lighten the load at seeding. If you get a cheaper morris, seed hawk you could reduce the packing pressure if you think that's an issue.

I wouldn't be concerned about packing if doing in fall, frost will break that up. More of a concern for me would be sealing of the NH3 without harrows, but maybe some could be added in there?

It makes more sense than a 100K+ deep tiller...

After watching 600lb trips just vibrating last fall I’d sure keep that in mind. As said before the harriows are a big part as well.

It is spendy but we sure like that 9500 and heavy harrows.

That said we have neighbours using flexicoil 5000’s in lighter good sealing soil and get fantastic crops!

I think banding NH3 with a 5710 should work quite well. The 12.6" space will clear straw really well being a four rank setup and no wheels under the frame. I have a 59' that I rebuilt a few years ago and want to sell. I put a lot of new parts and labor on this machine and only seeded 1800 ac after and has always been in a shed. It has 450 trips and 56 new Dutch Precision paired row openers ($13,000) that you could take the sealer plates off and band with the eagle beaks. NH3 down the points and you could place some dry K and S down a boot on the back of the opener. Or just use a carbide spoon and slide the NH3 into the stubble with very little disturbance and fuel. My 5710 has all new 5 1/2" pneumatic packer gangs.($23,000) It also has full optical blockage you could use for dry product. I installed a new MVD NH3 system with 12,000 lb/hr Continental cooler and all the wiring harness for sectional control. It currently has a Raven 450 ? rate controller and all new 1 1/4" hose and couplers for right to the back of the air tank. ($15,000) And a new tank hitch ($1,800) The 25 series MRBs are all rebuilt and you could sell them for $4-500 x 26 = $10-12,000. The mainframe caster tires are new and the wing dual tires are all good.( all wheel bearings, seals, wear sleeves replaced or repacked) I would sell this unit for $70,000 if you are interested. By the time you set up another drill to do what you want (parts and labor cost) , or sell off some surplus parts from mine that you will not need, this might be a good fit for you. And the rebuild is done.
