Hi guys. New to forum. I'm working on a STX500 quadtrac. Park brake light doesn't turn off or does so erratically. Replaced switch in valve block. No change. Tested pressure at switch, 160 PSI. Checked regulated pressure, 160 PSI at test port by remotes. Tried adjusting reg pressure at valve above hydraulic filter by batteries. The one with 1-1/4" jam nut and 12mm allen on spool. Absolutely zero change when I turn in or out. Pulled spool out and all seems fine. Changed both hydraulic filters. No change. As I understand the system, the regulated pressure from the charge pump which supplies main pump and oil for diffs and brakes. My question is basically, where do I go from here and what could be the issue?
So is the brake dragging?
What's the charge pressure spec?
Had a neighbour's couple years ago that had a case 4wd that the park brake would not disengage. . I believe it turned out to be a blown seal in the park brake release circuit....
On my 2006 Stx500 there is a sensor or electrical part around the battery box related to the parking brakes that went. The parking brakes applied on their own and would not come off. Once I replaced it I was good to go and have not had problems with it since.
Haha... I moved onto my grandparents farm... there was a piece of tape covering the engine oil pressure light on the 276 versatile..... the sensor was broken.... so I spent the $15 and put a new sensor in it ?
Back on topic...
Are you sure the adjustments you attempted were correct for that circuit?
If the oil is bypassing quickly enough to be dumping most of that volume the relief will be closed completely, so an adjustment wont make any change.. [get where I'm coming from?]
Is there a way to apply pressure to the park brake circuit from say a porta power?
In doing this you can narrow down a major leak or bypass.... should be able to pressure up that circuit to 300psi and it should hold that pressure for at least a few minutes... I would think.
If its bleeding pressure off you would find a blown seal somewhere.
Easy problem to fix. It ended up being the hoses at the charge pump were swapped. They look like. The hose coming from front of tractor would go on front of pump but it actually goes on rear. Easy to screw up and easy to fix.
