R50 Rotor Gear box question

Hey Folks

The outside seal on my the rotor gearbox on my R 50 has been slowly leaking since i bought the machine in '14. last summer it seemed to get much worse. The inside seal seems to be holding up fine. My question is, can I remove the variable speed drive pulley and change the seal without having to pull the rotor to get the gearbox on a workbench?

I presume you are talking about the input shaft. On a R70 you only have to take of the varispeed pulley. there is a sleeve that sits on the shaft which has an oring which was causing my leak. The seal runs on the sleeve

We found that it was also the o-ring leaking on our N-7, not the seal. removing the sleeve was the most difficult part, for some reason it was stuck and no way to get hold of it.
