We have an 03 2388 and last week it started giving us problems with the header raise.

While combining straight wheat, having just come from doing straight oats in the adjoining field, the header would not raise when the button was pushed. The little up arrow that usually shows up on the pillar wouldn't show either, and yet it did when we lowered the header.

The header ended up right on the ground with the thought that by holding the switch down until it showed "2" on the pillar, a miracle would occur and everything would be right with the world. While having the button pushed I started backing up and the header raised. We even tried recalibrating the header raise and lower, but pressing the "raise" to page through the process was impossible, because it wasn't recognising the button was pressed.

For the rest of the field, whenever we wanted to raise the header, we would have to stop and shift the lever to reverse, or at the very least just move it horizontally in the neutral slot to the right. It will lift once first thing in the day, so we thought the hytran was low, but after topping it off...still no change.

We purchased a new switch, but haven't had time to put it in, although a comment on our harvesting blog from someone said he didn't think that was the problem. It's a PITA having to stop when you want to raise the header...

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the harness going through the handle has a broken wire in it that makes contact when you pull the handle back. Putting the new switch in may take care of your problem as it has about a foot of harness attached to it.

Had this happen once on a 2188, check the feeder house height potentiometer near the back of the feeder house. If memory serves me correctly when it is frozen up, disconnected, or not working it will allow the header to go down but not up.
