Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on this. The reel will slow down/stop for no reason. If I raise the header it will start again and if I put the header right down the reel will stop. I'm thinking some kind of hyd. issue somwhere. Sometimes turning the the reel speed up helps but not always. The header is an older model 1020 25F on a 19861680.

There is a bolt that connects motor to reel. Mine has come out before. Also could be a broken wire going to reel solenoid on left side of feeder house. There is an adjustment screw on side of solenoid that bypasses reel speed switch. If reel starts to turn when you screw it out then it is solenoid or wiring problem. It sounds like you have a broken wire that is only makig contact when you let header down

I think we had a key-way fall out of one of the sprockets on the hyd. drive. Isn't there a plastic shield over the chain drive and the key-way was laying in there? Been a few years since I ran a 1020.

I had that happen before . It was a loose ground wire on throat that was the problem check on left side of throat where the wiring harness splits off and goes to the rotor speed senor.

Thanks for the info guys. The problem turned out to be the bolt that the ground wire for the solenoid was bolted to was loose. Tightened her up and things worked well since.
