I am looking at a Case 1680 or a 1688, both with a 36ft macdon straight cut header, as a second combine to take some of the pressure of of my 2188, and my neighbours JD 9600 when I custom cut for him. Can a 1991, 1680 handle this header? Also can a 1680 keep up with a 2188 or a JD 9600 or would the 1688 be a better buy to keep up with the the 2188 and JD? My 2188 is running a 24ft 1020 flex head and the JD is running a 30ft rigid head.

I would go with the 1688. It has more power and the long sieve setup. Overall, I believe it would handle the header better. To tell you the truth though, I would rather have that big header on my 2188 than either of these machines. Just a personal opinion though!
