We bought a 1680 with and 8 row head after harvest this year. We have a 6 row planter. I was thinking of trading for a 6 row head for easier transport while on the combine and it would match the planter. Is this worth doing or am I thinking too much. I would like to by an 8 row planter but good ones are hard to come by in our area and I think 16 may be to big

We ran a 1063 on a 1680 for a lot of years. The weak point of a 1063 is the single shaft to run all six rows. A 1680 will push it at a good clip, and if you happen to hit a patch of big weeds at speed it's easy to break that shaft. Just slow down when things get tough and you shouldn't have any trouble.

I can't tell you if it's worth it or not. I sure wouldn't want to go back to a six row.

Depending on the make of your planter add two more units and have an eight row.
