The 1640, 1660, 1644, and 1666 had 24" rotors. The 1680 and 1688 had 30".

Back in the old days, and if you were not in the corn belt, one would call the 1660 a "corn machine" over the 1640 as it had more power in the same machine.

Someone should post a link soon to a site that has a list of the differences by year. I think Hoobers has one such list.

But the 21xx series came after the 16xx. Then the 23xx, 25xx, and then into a new number system when they included the cvt line up known as the flagship series.

1680 w/o Cummins short sieve 210 hp i am guessing
1680 w/Cummins long sieve same air filter as 1460, small rad, hi rpm engine 235 hp standard cleaning fan, smaller hydraulic pump, reel hyd pump mounted on feeder house
1688 long sieve, bigger rad, bigger air filter, lower engine rpm (260 hp), squirrel cage fan, bigger hydraulic pump, gearbox instead of open gears on vertical unload auger
