All, thanks for all of your help this far. I have found a 1977 L2 that is in need of some TLC. I think I can get it for a song, but I have some questions first.

1) Can you update the cab monitors/header height to run a series 3 head (just curious if I have room to grow)

2) Can you re-route the heater & A/C hoses inside the corner column?
(probably a dumb question, but just wondering if anyone has ever tried)

3) Can you adapt the long shoe out of the late models into the older machines?

This L2 is in need of a good cleaning. With that said, the guts seem to be in good shape with little wear. All monitors work (at least all light up when the test button is pressed). It has the 301 engine with gear drive. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

1. yes you can put a series three module in a 77 to run a series three head. Probably would have to find one from a salvage yard.
2. I am not sure if there is enough room in the corner column on a 77 cab. Might be able to be done but not sure.
3. Yes. I think it uses a different shaft across the front of the shoe. but otherwise it fits in.

Thanks l3! I think you are right. While I was waiting for a reply, I did some poking around on AGCO parts, it turns out Gleaner made a kit to do exactly what I am asking in #3

From AGCO Parts Gleaner L2 Book page 424:

71324084
1 CLEANER SHOE KIT, long, (To install long shoe on Combines prior to S/N 19501) (Incl. Chaffer and Sieve)
Note: If long cleaner shoe has been
installed
on combines prior to S/N 19501, service
with parts shown for 19501 thru 28000.

Glad to hear it can accept these two updates! If I can get it cheap enough, I might just have to get over the ugly cab.

Yes, #3 is definitely a go, as we have a few machines with the kit.

I imagine a guy can get all the HVAC lines from a 78 and up machine and run it up the cab pillar as well.

For AHHC, I have no idea, but I am sure it wont take much adapting, I think there was even a kit for that as well.

My personal opinion? The L2 market is slumping a little bit, so IMO I would be shopping for a newer one, If a guy wants simple, go 1978, and if you want all the features, 1981 and 1982, but I am a sucker for that straight wall bin with the auto fold extensions. :)

Good luck!
