What updates are avalible for a 1987 1680 combine? Also were they a good combine compared to a 1990-1994 1680 or 1688? Is it possible to do peas with them or would one in a newer year be better. I am looking at about 900-1500 acres of cereals, canola, oats, barley, wheat, and some peas. What are the down falls to this combine?

I previously owned a 1987 1680 and two 1990 1680's.

The 1987-1680 basically is a 1480 with a nicer cab and new decals. It still uses a IH DT series engine. Has the same short top sieve/shoe as a 1480.

In 1990 the 1680 was upped in HP with a Cummins engine. If a 90.5 or later 1680 it will have a longer top shoe/sieve combination.

In good wheat with a 30' head you will notice a substantial difference between the two combines. The 87's DT series engine has less HP and and you can overload the shoe to where wheat will ride over. The 90' has plenty of power and when set right will cut 1-1.5 mph faster than the older machine in the same field. Jeff
