I was shocked it was so wet....in rantoul a week before the corn was very dry and beans were very ripe...

maybe it was wet or rainy the same time they planted at rantoul.. but why not plant really really soon.... they do a great job and i hate to bash them.....

but seeing whats at rantoul just curious why it wasn't the same in decatur.

These little demos strike me as rather pointless, I gather little area is used for setup,
conditions vary and it sound like harvesting corn at that moisture while not unheard of, is rare.
So overall what did one learn?

On thursday everyone was running about oh i dont know 1.5 mph, its was like watching the special olympics, although deere did run the fastest with there mighty 8 row header. I'd say if your going to judge anything by watching demo's at a farm show you probably can't afford what your watching run.

who knows how they had the 9120 set up. if they aren't smart enought to do it right, which I doubt they are, let them have the losses. my new 16 row just showd up a couple days ago. think I can post picts of this one.

Absolutely nothing!

And to anyone who happens to read this and is unfamiliar with corn (likely very few)...the plant continues to add dry matter to the kernel until black layer is reached, which blocks additional sugars from entering the kernel. When this occurs, approximate moisture is 32-33 percent.

they needed a 6 row head on the 9120 that way it would have been the fastest

It was dried from 35-45% down to storage. Someone got hung with quite a bill for drying.

my thoughts, If moisture is that high, it is fit for the cows as corn sileage only!!!!!! DA

talk to someone who knew how it was setup today. 6 sets of roundbars WRONG standand afx rotor with straight bars. red sample was best. I was told by some one with the red team. fewer round bars and some spiked rasp bars would help.

Biggest help would be if the show was a month later, like it used to be.

Sooner the show the more attendence... just go for a earlier variety....i think most of us would rather see them harvest 120-150 bushel corn than that 40 percent crap

Plant 85-90 day corn now. They just as well cancel harvest demo's rather than try to have them that early in the locations they've chosen. Been to alot of shows, been to a couple of the early ones, they show nothing in terms of normal harvest capability.

I don't see how changing rasp bars, or rotors is gonna help with shoe loss but that's just me. Rotor loss ya.

Yes, maybe 40% is a bit excessive, but I for one enjoy throwing a challenge like high moisture corn at these combines. 18% corn is easy, but let's face it, a lot of regions in the corn belt may not have a long enough growing season to always be able to pick 18% corn, and higher moisture really can bring out some strengths and weaknesses. It's been a few years, but I can remember a few years in the 90s when we had to pick some corn that just wouldn't dry down much below 30.
