The steering on our 2144 is getting hard at times. It started happening last season. Not all the time and not bad if you're moving but even then sometimes. Yesterday I moved it in the shed and it was very hard to turn to the right but not bad at all to the left. What's happening here?

You might have junk in your steering valve. I had a tractor that did the same thing. There was a metal shaving in the steering valve. The mechanic cleaned it and it worked normally. I don't know where the valve is on a combine though.

Try jacking up the rear and then turning. Then you can check your steering pivots for siezure as well as orbital valve. Also try moving the auger in or out or the front up and down when you steer to see if you get better steering.
